Jan L. Chamberland Age 65, passed away Aug 7, 2010 in University Place, WA. He was born in Camp Lejeune, NC, and raised in University Place, WA. He graduated from Curtis HS in 1963, joined the Air Force shortly after, and was married in 1964. He trained as a jet mechanic and spent 2 years in Colorado Springs before going to Vietnam for a year. In 1968 he started working for the Town of Fircrest as a lineman, and joined the Fircrest Fire Dept. He worked as a lineman for 39 years for three employers, Fircrest, Parkland and Tacoma. He took great pride in the accomplishments of the firefighter recruits that he worked with. He also served as a Commissioner of the University Place Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and travel, but most of all his three grandchildren. Retirement gave him time to enjoy his grandchildren, travel, and explore this beautiful country we live in and enjoy time with his friends. He is survived by his wife Loretta of 46 years, son Patrick, daughter Margaret (Clarence), son John (Angie), granddaughters Madison and Mckenna, and grandson Brandon. Memorial gathering will be Saturday, August 21, 2010, 1:00 to 4:00 PM, at the Fircrest Community Recreation Center, 555 Contra Costa Ave. A Memorial Fund has been established at Columbia Bank in Jan's name to be used toward a public use project and Memorial plaque. Loretta and Family, Chris and I are so sorry to hear about Jan's passing. I feel blessed to have had a nice visit with him a few weeks ago as I was leaving the mall and he was arriving to run an errand. He was always so positive and interested in our family and sharing the latest accomplishments of his grandchildren. Jan was always wanting to help others and gave his personal time on so many projects. We will always be appreciative of his thoughtful and caring ways and will truely miss him. Our deepest sympathy and prayers are extended to your family.

Jan always cared about his community, and I loved hearing his stories of growing up in University Place.
I became aquainted with him when we served together as Fire Commissioners with Dist. #3 in University Place. I also worked with him as part of an advisory group for the Chambers Properties.
Jan was always concerned and willing to help with neighborhood issues regarding development at the Chambers Properties, and surrounding area.
I am very saddened for his family and the loss to our community in his passing. He will be greatly missed.
