Not sure what to say?

Gabe,
It has been 13 years and I still think of you and miss you very much. I have graduated college and found a part-time job but I can work from home. I have also been asked to speak at a conference in June 2024 assistance and adaptability for African-American disabled individuals. I´m not sure why they have it predominantly the African-American population, but since I was a success story for vocational rehab they asked me to speak. I would´ve definitely invited you for this taking me all the way to Phoenix. anyway I miss you and some of your work seems to still be going on, so thank you for that. I made chocolate chip cookies for Christmas for some friends I would´ve made you a batch again if you were here. Much love peace and I miss you., Velda

Gabe Zimmerman was a student in my AP Economics class at University High School. He was bright, articulate, handsome, and kind. There isn't a January 8th day since his passing that I don't spend a few minutes talking to him while he is in Heaven. Every young student should strive to be the type of person Gabe Zimmerman was in helping others become better human beings. We are all better off because Gabe was on this Earth. Hope all of you get to meet him in Heaven.

In some ways Gabe I´m glad you´re not here I don´t think you would be very happy with some of the things going on in the United States at this time. There´s so much strife confusion mean spirit this loss of peoples humanity and I really would hate for you to know what they did to our nations capital. Anyway I hope you have a peaceful time and you give me a smile infectious smile. I still mourn the loss, the loss of a friend. Peace.

It´s been 10 Years since you were taken from us. Just a reflection I wonder what you would think of the political issues going on in America right now. I dove more into politics because of you. I believe what you told me about changing one´s way of life and speaking up as a constituent would help our government provide for us. Your smile, encouragement and humanity that´s the reason I worked on changing my world by voting in 2020. I miss you a lot your guidance would definitely be appreciated these days. By the way I finally graduated college. Rest in peace Dear Sir, rest in peace. Much love, Velda

I miss that calming smile of his, he had a certain way of putting you at ease and knowing that he could figure out how to take care of whatever the issue was. Although I am disabled I am working towards walking to the head of Sabino Canyon to see the artwork dedicated to Gabe. He was a beautiful person and had a very good heart. You are truly missed Sir, rest in peace. Velda

I still rmemeber that smile that day I bought hot homemade chocolate chip cookies to his office for helping me with a medicare problem. I did not have much to give but he enjoyed that so much. He became my friend through this and I will miss him. His encouragement to me about continuing my education and that fact that I was involve with the Literacy Volunteers gave me reason to keep going. He was happy when he found out my major was Social Services and that I was attending Pima Community College for it. He simple just enjoyed people and tried to help anyway he could. He will stay in my heart, my condolences to his family and the one he was to marry, I'm very sorry for our loss.

Sincerely, with love, Velda V. Crawley

Dear Family and Fiancee of Gabe,

Please accept my deepest condolences on the death of your dear Gabe. We have all lost a treasure--an admirable and caring young man who gave so much to our community. You must have been so proud of him!

As a parent, I feel that the loss of a child must be one of the greatest tragedies a parent could have to experience in life and my heart and prayers go out to you.

May God comfort you and give you strength!

With love and blessings,

I did not know your son Gabe, but I wanted to say thank you for raising such a fine young man. His example of hard work, determination, and ultimately his courage under fire, are all character traits that I hope my own sons, ages 17 and 9, will also strive to develop. I'm certain that your son is now, and will continue to be, an inspirational role model for young men everywhere.

I also wanted you to know that I know for certain that families can be together forever. There is life after death and we will have an opportunity to see our loved ones again. Our family has also been touched by death and a life snuffed out before it's time. This certain knowledge that death is not the end of all things, is the only thing that pulled our family through our own trials. May God bless you with a sure knowledge that you will see your dear son once again, is our humble prayer.

Only after his death did I find out that Gabe worked at Arizona's Children Association a number of years ago, ironically with troubled youth. My daughter Melissa, and I met him in Vail at a precursor to the ‘Corner’ events. Gabe was there to help constituents with any issue that Gabby’s office might help with. Gabe was welcoming, friendly, caring and so very helpful. We got the needed services and also a follow-up from Gabe some time later checking with us to make sure our issues had been handled. So, to our absolute horror, as we heard the dreadful news about the ‘wounded’ we immediately thought of Gabe, and the rest is………………..

Thank you for raising the kind of man we need more of in this world. The work I do with parents in teaching them 21st Century skills to help in respectfully raising their children will be in honor of the kind of role model you set for Gabe.

Dear Family and Fiancee of Gabe,
The only way I can make sense of tragic loss is to think that if it had been you who had gone first tragically, he would be feeling what you are feeling. Perhaps the thought that he was spared the pain of losing you will help you to make your way through the pain of losing him. Peace and blessings.

Gabe and I worked together on a variety of projects, most recently on an electric transmission line issue, where we coordinated with Trent Franks' and Ed Pastors' offices. He was the age of my son. All deaths are hard, tragic deaths harder and when a young person dies senselessly and brutally, harder still to stomach, fathom.

The sense of loss on all involved is enomous and I think about it constantly; all are in my prayers. My heart holds a special place for Gabe-a person I never met, but yet - in words and pictures I now sense a person who I could have been friends with and appreciated greatly for what he offered. He seems most intelligent and driven; yet kind and caring almost to a fault.

Such a person is very, very rare.

I grieve for all impacted, certainly the love ones so devastated and in this momentary tribute a person named Gabe - a kindred spirit I'll never meet in this life but will be with me now in thought and in my heart, always.

To my ASU alum - you will be most missed but always remembered and your impact will endure. To his family and fiance - I believe and I hope you share my belief that he will be, in life and in death, with you always. Some measure of peace can be found in this. My prayers, always.
