It was a pleasure knowing Lewis. I would often run into him in the commissary. When on my golf walks, if he was outside I would stop and chat with him. During those chats,he enjoyed talking about his train set. I now know more about his life and it was quite an interesting one. On a number of occasions, I would see him and Janice at the gym walking around the track.

Heartfelt and sincere condolences to the Sleeper family on behalf on behalf of my brother-in-law, Jim Westcott and his Mother, Jean Westcott upon the death of Lewis Sleeper. Jean is the widow of Earl Westcott, a Ploesti POW in Romania during WW2. His B-24 crash-landed in a cornfield during the air raids and the airmen on board were greeted by farmers who turned them over to their captives. Earl and Jean attended most of the Ploesti Reunions over the years. Even though Earl passed in 2003, Jean has continued to attend to include the one this year in Dayton, OH, the 70th anniversary of the Ploesti raid. The Romanian Princess Catherine, who befriended the POWs during their captivity and helped to improve their situation, actually visited Earl and his family in Kendall, MI (which is near St. Joseph, MI) after she moved to the United States. Lewis Sleeper (and Earl and all the other POWs) will be forever remembered for their duty and sacrifice for our country! Thank You....EM Stephenson, Tucson, AZ

The Langner family will miss Lew greatly. Lew helped my dad through the AXPOW and it was my pleasure to meet Lew and join the AXPOW. I'll never forget you Lew. RIP with all your brothers from the "greatest generation."
