Gary, I feel for you. Your mother had a light around her. It was warm, it was kind, it was always welcoming. Like others I've known that have left this world from whom I,ve wanted more; so it is the same with your mother - I wasn't done with her yet. Unfortunate for me. I'm honored you wanted me to sing, though I do have trouble stepping-up for such occasions when I know people involved, but, I would have done my best. With your permission I wouldn't have done an Irish song (unless you had one in mind), but a version of Finnlandia. Melodies in hymnals can come from anywhere and they stay the same, but, it's open season with the lyrics. Had I been there I would have offered this song; part prayer, part conversation with one's self: Be still my soul, the Lord is on thy side. Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain. Leave to thy God to order and provide, In ev'ry change thy virtue shall remain. Be still my soul, when change and fear are past; All safe and blessed, we shall meet at last. Take care Gary, Your friend - Darrell

Klara Swimmer, mother of my good friend Gary, had a great sense of humor! I will always remember visiting with her and laughing most heartily. She was an inspiration. Much love and respect to her surviving family, son Gary, his wife Karen, and her grandson Isaac.
