Irene, Liz, Bill, Jim, Harry and John: I am very sorry for your loss. H.H. was a big presence in my childhood, and I'll never forget how he was the first person to go running in the neighborhood for the exercise. (When passersby jeered and threw things, he became a walker, as I recall it. How times have changed.) I was afraid of him, and startled by his gentleness and sensitivity when asked to remove a splinter for me. I must have been 6 or something. He raised very spunky kids of whom he had every right to be very proud. May he rest in peace.
