I have nothing but positive memories of spending time at the Duffy home growing up, where there was always a batch of special K bars and where Mr. Duffy was always there to coach us, play catch or just make us laugh. He was a father to so many of us and he will be missed! Ann Husten Folkman

Our sincere sympathy to Donna, John and Mary Ellen and families.

Jim was a wonderful friend of our family and a great help to us as new emigrants to the US. His great laugh, encouraging smile and helping hand was always appreciated by Maura, Vincent, Adrian and Neal --- the Hegartys 'on the other side of the fence '(1972-1982)

May he rest in peace, RIP

We offer our thoughts and prayers to the entire Duffy family. What a class act Jim was. He was such a great person. He always wanted to hear about what you were doing and what was going on with you. As a childhood friend of Jim's two children and most recently Jim's insurance guy for the past 20+ years I would regularly receive a call from him. It would start with "why has my premium gone up so much?" sometimes it hadn't gone up at all or it was maybe up just a few bucks due to his last little bit of "incidental contact" with another persons vehicle. Maybe a scrape at the local Byerly's parking lot or a nudge at the St. Anthony Post office. He was such a peach of a guy. Usually after I heard his side of the story I'd want to track down the other party and ask them why they parked their car crooked in the parking space or why the tail end of the car was sticking out because I knew my good buddy Jim couldn't have done it without someone else contributing to the accident. Even if their car was parked. Oh Jim!
some of our phone conversations were priceless and I will remember them as if they were yesterday. After we'd talk insurance or his billing statement or what discounts he should get but wasn't currently getting he'd invariably ask about my kids. What sports they were playing and at what schools they attended. I would usually respond that all four of my girls were hockey players (since that season seems to go for 10 months of the year) He would gasp "oh Jeeeez !!!" "I don't know how you do it" he would say. He always wanted to hear about how their teams were doing and if I was coaching and how that was going. I'm sure I always sounded frazzled by the schedule that we kept but he always genuinely wanted to know how they were all doing. He would always welcome a question about Jimmy and his football, or Colleen and her basketball and Kevin's sports as he loved them so much and he would rarely miss a game.

I have a business trip to Fargo on Monday and will miss the Visitation but no doubt, my 3:15 up and 3:!5 back will be spent thinking about him and what a terrific guy he was. We should all be so lucky as to have a guy like that influence our lives. He didn't preach, he never was angry or had a poor disposition that I ever recall. He was just a guy that was always pleasant, always quick with a smile or a laugh and I can't think of a better guy to model one's behavior after. You will be missed Jim, but your kind heart will stay with so many of us forever.

All my best Donna Lou, John, Mary Ellen and families.
