Compassion and determination, balanced with a dose of “grit.” I was only aware of some of Ana's contributions to this community, but I know the Community Foundation was a grateful recipient of her talents. To my surprise, I discovered that Ana's entrepreneurial talents ran deep. Our discussion ranged on from how to build the Foundation to how to better market my own business. I will miss her smile, straight talk and her confidence. Ana left an impression and a challenge to all of us to take risks, make change happen and to make a difference. Ana… we won't let you down.

A few days before Ana entered the hospital, I went to Plowshares to ask her to help with an interview of a prospective employee. She appeared to be too ill to be at work and it looked like she was getting ready to go home but she looked in her appointment book to see what her schedule was 4 days later and said that sure she could do it. I tell this story because it is so typical of Ana's willingness to always help out. All of us who know her are already missing her so much

On behalf of the Community Development Commission (CDC), I would like to express our deepest gratitude to Ana. Getting to know Ana and work with her was a treat. You knew you were with someone special when you were with her. She served on our board for many years when she had way too many commitments already on her plate. She gave of herself and then somehow found more to give. Her positive attitude and brilliant mind made her a true joy to be around. She was, and forever will be, who we try to be.

I was blessed to know Ana. She had a wonderful way of sharing her wisdom, enthusiasm and love of community. Ana empowered people to be their best selves and generously shared her skills and belief that together we could make the world a kinder place. It was an honor to know her. The coast community sends our love to her family friends and the entire county of Mendocino. Ana affirmed everything that was good and decent.
