I first met Bill after the publication of Band of Brothers and the death of my father. I am the proud son of a member of the 101st Airborne. My Dad jumped on D Day, in Holland and was at the Bulge. He didn't say much about it, but Bill was more than gracious in filling in the gaps for me. I will always treasure the memory of our friendship. It was an honor to have known him as I did. Godspeed, my friend.

God Bless Bill Guarnere! I learned of Bill's exploits from the series "Band of Brothers" and marveled at his steely nerve even when lying gravely wounded in the snow. His passing marks one fewer of our Greatest Generation. Actor Frank John Hughes' portrayal was right on the money- although the identities of the veterans who were interviewed were not revealed until the very end, there was no disguising which of the real Brothers was Bill.
At ease, soldier- God's peace to you!
God Bless you Bill. You deserve to Rest in Peace with God and all the Angels. Thank you so much for all you did - You fought evil in the world, and made it a better place. A true American Soldier!

Thank you for your service to this country. I know you and others of your generation did not think of yourselves as being part of the Greatest Generation, but the sons and daughters of these men do. Rest in Eternal Peace.
I have always admired such Men as " Wild Bill " from America's Greatest Generation. In 2010 I wrote Bill thanking him for what him and many others did fighting so I may live free. Within a week I received a handwritten letter from him and a Airborne Decal thanking me for my words. That letter hangs in my Home Office till this day and will always hang in my Home till the day I to pass on. There is not enough that we as Americans can do to thank these Brave Men for they have done for the whole World and all Societies living within. Rest in Peace Bill and enjoy the Company of Easy Men who are there with You.
Over the years these brave men slip away from us quietly .I cannot find words adequate enough to express what they did and truly gave us.Let us never forget their names and their stories for that is what and who Americans are.
A MAN WHO WAS THERE WHEN HIS COUNTRY NEEDED HIM. ONE OF THE EAGLE HERO,S. TO ALL OF HIS FAMILY YOU WERE BLESSED.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the Gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

Very very sad to hear of the passing of one of my personal inspirations and a true American hero today. Sgt. William "Wild Bill" Guarnere of the 101st Airborne, Easy Company, better known as the "Band of Brothers" passed away today. As many of you know, the Band of Brothers have been my heroes for many years now, having watched the series probably 25 times and reading dozens of books by the men from Easy Company. They were my inspiration to better myself and to be a leader, and were the reason why I wanted to join the 101st Airborne for so many years. I have read Wild Bill's and Babe Heffron's book a handful of times and each time felt new due to their wonderful and life filled personalities. Sgt. Guarnere was a man I modeled myself after. Unfortunately, after all the trips to Toccoa on "Currahee Weekend" I was never able to personally meet Sgt. Guarnere. The group of Veterans at the event every year would deminish slightly. These wonderful men and women are leaving us at an incredibly high rate. Let us never forget Sgt. "Wild Bill" Guarnere, or ANY of the Veterans, past and present who have given their lives to fight for this country. Wild Bill, I thank you so much for serving this country with the greatest generation this nation has ever seen. You are a true hero, all of you were heroes all though you were all too humble to admit it. I salute you, and also wish to say, "Currahee!" Rest in peace, Wild Bill.
My prayers go out to the family for their great loss. RIP, Wild Bill, and thank you for your service.
