I met Bob when he and his family first moved to Anderson Valley in 1971 and we struck up an immediate and enduring friendship. We always enjoyed talking about sports (Giants vs. Dodgers, Cal vs. USC, of course), horses, politics, family, local history, our Christian faith, whatever. I was a student at UC Berkeley at the time and would always try to see him when in town on a week-end. Bob was always interested in how you were doing, what your plans were, your interests, all of that. I remember once I mentioned I was going to be looking for a summer job between semesters, and the next day when I saw him at the Chevron station in Boonville on the way out of town back to Berkeley he showed me all the summer jobs he'd found for me to apply for in the Santa Rosa newspaper. Bob loved his family, he loved kids, and he was a friend to everybody. Condolences to all his family.

Bob has been a friend of our family for many years, He was a great friend to my dad, known to Bob and Helen as "Smitty, I remember seeing him at all the sporting events in Ukiah, whether he had a family member playing or not, just a wonderful man, full,of encouragement for all the athletes, and always a cheerful smile. He will always be remembered fondly.

Sorry to learn of Bob's passing. I was a customer of his at Valley Equipment in Ukiah. I still own a generator he sold me and it still works perfectly.

The last time I saw and spoke to Bob was a couple of years ago at Valley View where he and I had a good chat. He was full of wonderful stories to share! I will miss him, but I cherish my memories.

My sympathies go out to his family & friends. Bob was truly a person that made Ukiah a better place.

Penney, Robin, Rusty & Dennis - my thoughts & prayers are with all of you in the loss of your father. I have fond memories of our days shared in Boonville. May the wonderful memories of your father stay close to your hearts.
