Obituary

Guardsmen who worked closely with Floyd E. Lake described him as a soldier who paid attention to detail and took care of his co-workers.
"Lake set himself apart as a soldier of the utmost professionalism and dedication," said Kristine M. Munn, National Guard spokeswoman, praising Lake's "leadership and care for fellow soldiers."
Lake, 43, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, was killed Jan. 20 when his helicopter crashed. He was assigned to Christiansted.
Lake enlisted in the Army in 1988, finished a four-year tour, then joined the Army National Guard. He was a supervisor on St. Thomas before moving in 1991 to St. Croix, where he accepted a foreman position with the National Guard's U.S. Property and Fiscal Office.
In 2004, Lake transferred to the National Guard Bureau, where he was responsible for $3 million worth of equipment and property. He is credited with establishing a logistics system to serve more than 250 personnel there. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and five children: J'Nelle, Floyd Jr., Andre, Keeshawn and Tamile.

To the family and friends of Sgt. 1st Class Floyd E. Lake:
It has truly been my honor to sign Floyd's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Floyd will always be remembered in my home.
With love and respect ~ Peggy

To the family of Sgt. Floyd E. Lake. I just wanted you to know that our hearts and prayers are with you. We are Geo-Cachers and USAgeocoins.com puts out a coin for every fallen soldier. We found one of these coins in a cache for another fallen hero Dana Carver and were inspired by the logs and thoughts of all the others who have touched this coin on its travels that we got in touch with them and bought two coins to honor our heroes and send them on their journeys. We are...

Please accept my deepest sympathies.
