GREEN, Dr. Geraldine “Gerry” Ann; passed away in Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, Hospice Unit on March 6, 2014 after a brief illness with family present. She was the loving daughter of the late Emerson W. Green, Sr. and Elizabeth M. Green (nee Shield). She was preceded in death by brothers, Philip Green, Sr. and Emerson W. Green, Jr. Surviving her is sister-in-law, Marie Green (nee McNamara). Gerry was special aunt to Philip Green, Jr. (Linda), Nora Becker (Gerald), Anne Green (Matt Ball), James Green (Kim), Mary Beth DeMoss (David), Emerson Green, III (Audrey) and Patrick Green; great aunt to Ellen, Tyler, James Robert, Ryan, Jarett, Zachary and Olivia Green and Cecilia and Henry DeMoss. Her aunt, Arline Shield; and three cousins, Patricia, Kathy and Mike Shield also survive her. She will be missed by many dear friends and loving neighbors. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Taylor, MI (formerly St. Cyril’s of Jerusalem). A 1949 graduate of Marygrove College; she received a PhD in Math Education from the University of Michigan in 1969. Gerry enjoyed a 61 year teaching career; 19 years in the city of Detroit, 21 years in the Royal Oak School District and concluded with 21 years at Eastern Michigan University in 2010. A lifelong member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Gerry was a past Chairman and active participant in NCTM ( National Association of Teachers of Mathematics). She enjoyed attending the DSO (Detroit Symphony Orchestra) and various lecture series. She was also a supporter of Art Museums in Detroit, Chicago and Washington, DC. Gerry contributed to a number of charities and at her request, in lieu of flowers donations in her memory are recommended to: Our Lady of the Angels-Food Pantry, Our Lady of the Angels-Parish Office, 6442 Pelham Rd., Taylor, MI 48180 or Marygrove College Educational Advancement Program, 8425 West McNichols Rd., Detroit, MI 48221-2599 or www.marygrove.edu. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at Our Lady of the Angels Church, Taylor, MI. Interment at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Rockwood Michigan will take place later in the spring.
