Joseph M. Grillo Sr. "Papa", 67, of South Glastonbury, beloved husband of Betty (Burke) Grillo, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford to the late Vincent and Anna (Listro) Grillo, he was raised in Windsor and has been a resident of South Glastonbury for the last 20 years. Joe was a second-generation homebuilder / remodeler. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 35 years and a Past Exalted Ruler (President). Joseph was also a commodore at the Middletown Yacht Club and a member of the Irish-American Home Society, Inc. in Glastonbury. Throughout his life, Joseph enjoyed cooking, boating and golfing in his spare time. His true passion was his children and grandchildren who will miss him dearly. Besides his wife Betty, he is survived by his sons Joseph Grillo, Jr. and his wife Lisa (Pascuccio) and George Grillo and his fiancée Jody Smaglis, all of South Glastonbury; his daughters Elizabeth "Betty Ann" Grillo of South Glastonbury and Laura-Lee "Lori" Grillo Luna and her husband Michael Luna of South Windsor; his grandchildren George, Jr. and his wife Alesha (Perron), Elizabeth-Ann, Nicole and her fiancée Daniel Blair, Gina, Olivia, Miguel, Logan, and Juliana; his great-grandchild Brooklyn and one on the way; his brothers Michael Grillo and his wife Pam of Suffield, Vinnie Grillo and his wife Maria of Granby, Guy Grillo and his wife Luanne of Arizona, and Frank Grillo of East Granby; his sisters Maria (Grillo) Mazzulla of Windsor and Carla Tracey of Enfield. A memorial mass will be held at 10 AM Saturday, May 10 at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St. Windsor. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. His family will receive friends on Friday, May 9 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph's name to the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center, 85 Retreat Ave Hartford, CT 06106 or Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation, Inc. 282 Washington St Hartford, CT 06106.
