Constance McIntire Obituary

Constance May McIntire 1932 - 2014 As months turned into years Constance never gave up the fight against the ugly debilitating Alzheimer's disease that always seemed to gain strength as time passed. On November 7, 2014 at the age of 82 the fight ended with no winners. Constance was born September 20, 1932 to Clarence and Mary Ashburn in the small lumber town of Scotia, CA. Her infant brother died when she was a small child. She married Ed Andersen shortly after attending Business College in Eureka. The marriage didn't work out and she entered the work force. A few years later she met her soul mate Elmer McIntire and they soon married. That was 55 years ago. They raised four children: Jan, Gary, Glenda & Greg in their home in Eureka. After their retirement they moved to Cottonwood, CA where they enjoyed the sunshine until Constance's illness caused them to move back to Humboldt. Constance had a love for music. In her younger days she was in the Scotia Band and later the Fortuna Marching Band. She loved to play piano for hours at a time and sing along. She was a member of the Eastern Star along with her mother. The family would like to give a very special thank you to April Parrott & her girls for the loving care they gave to Constance. Also we give a thank you to Anne McIntire, Melinda Johnson, Rita Fritz, Claudine, Amy Velenti, and Lena James for being devoted caregivers. Thanks to Hospice for all the services they offered -- everyone was comforted by your presence in her care even if only for a short while. Our family is so grateful for the above and beyond loving care that Elmer showed towards Constance in her time of need. Without his loving support we could not have made it through this difficult time. His love and commitment is a great role model for his family. Her children were of great comfort to her as well. Constance was preceded in death by her parents Mary & Clarence Ashburn and her brother Kenneth Ashburn. She is survived by her husband Elmer McIntire and her children Jan (Melinda) McIntire, Gary (Tony) McIntire, Glenda (Steve) McCluskey, Greg (Anne) McIntire; grandchildren Amy Velenti, Brad McIntire, Matthew (Rachele) McCluskey, Richelle (Tim) Souza, Jerrod McCluskey, Eli McIntire, Jessica Rose, Adrian Fox; and great-grandchildren Tristan Velenti, Fia Velenti and baby Souza due in May. Services will be held at Pierce Mortuary, 707 H St. in Eureka on Wednesday November 12, 2014 at 11:00 am. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com and click on obits.
