NEELY SR., RICHARD JOEL Richard Joel Neely, Sr. passed away at his home on Saturday, February 16, 2013. Born December 17, 1939 in San Diego. He graduated from St. Augustine High School, The University of Notre Dame, and University of San Diego School of Law. He was with the District Attorney's office from 1965 to 1994. He was the Assistant District Attorney from 1985 to 1994. He served as a Juvenile Court Referee until November 2012. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, his son Richard Jr. (Joshua Bubczyk), and daughters Deanna Brownlee (David), and Jennifer Fourman (Michael); grandchildren Wyatt and Sarah; a brother, Edgar, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass will be said in his honor at St. Didacus Catholic Church on February 27th at 2:00 p.m. Rosary beginning at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

He asked me a normal question. He appeared to be at least somewhat interested and really listening to the reply, while thinking quickly. He then said Oh" and uttered what I felt was an off-hand compliment. I have never forgotten that moment, important as it was to me.

I am one of the hundreds of DDAs whose careers & lives were better because of Dick Neely....He always charted a course of integrity and high standards. Mostly I think of him as a principled, kind and decent man....who was fun, hard working and who loved his family so much. Joan Stein.

Aunt Eleanor, Dicky, Deanna and Jennifer, I am so sorry for the pain you are feeling. This is so hard to imagine that Uncle Dick is no longer with us. What wonderful memories I have. He was such a great man...beyond words!
I thank God he is now pain-free and in the comfort of our Lord.

So many fond memories as I was growing up. He was always fun to be around.
Turning the pages in my mind, his character Is still alive and kicking! Although I had not seen him in many years, the memories of he and the family were and are very vivid in my mind. I am so thankful to have been able to share a part of his life.

For Ellie and the rest of the family. I wish to express my sincere condolences. My Dad (Daniel Allen) will not be able to attend the services, as he has been admitted to the hospital. I have talked to Bob Harvey and Father Tom Gardocki, and they along with Dad's older sister Carlene, will pass along our families prayers.
My Dad was deeply shaken on learning of Dick's passing. They were fine friends and college room mates.
