Dear Jan,
Wayne and I are traveling in Gunnison, CO and we have heavy hearts today. Phil was the most exceptional pilot we ever knew. We shared stories last night over a CO beer which Phil would have enjoyed himself! Then we got an ice cream sundae in honor of his sweet tooth inspite of his disciplined eating habits! I remembered a trip Phil, Lee Person, and I made to Mojave, CA with our NASA Learjet and on the way back stopped in Gunnison overnight, what a fun trip and with Phil at the helm we viewed the Grand Canyon in a way few experience. Wayne recalled Phil's methodical way he approached each research flight on so many projects and various aircraft. We both recalled that only Phil had the expertise and courage to fly at night at five feet off the ground when we needed him to do so for an Ag research project at Wallops. We always enjoyed seeing Phil at NASA retirement activities, but especially Old Timers where Phil's photography was always on display. Phil told me once that my Dad, as his Science teacher and an avid amateur photographer, got Phil and his brother interested in photography, which holds a special place for me. Phil also told me his Dad and my Grandfather were best buds in Hampton, so I treasured these tid bits he shared. We both thought that what we will miss most is Phil's warm smile, hearty laugh, and one who always had a kind word for everybody. He will be so missed by his NASA family. Cindy and Wayne

Dear Jan, I was so sorry to hear of Phil's death. No one, in my experience, fought for life more.
I know how devoted you are to him and so admire your loving care and compassion. Please know that you are close to my heart in prayer. Diane

Dear Janet,
Cynthia and I were saddened to hear of the passing of Philip. I will always remember the smile you shared when we were first introduced to him.
Always remember the joy that the two of you shared.
Please know that we are thinking of you and your family.
Blessings,
