Norma Ann (Turner) "Nanny/Big Nanny" Sloggie, 83, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013. A native of Newport News, she had been a Peninsula resident since 1935. Mrs. Sloggie resided at Spring Arbor in Williamsburg for the last four years. She was also a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, David J. Sloggie, who was patiently awaiting her arrival, and her loving mother, Lillian Turner. Survivors include three sons, Ron Sloggie and his wife, Cheryl, of Newport News, Dave Sloggie and his wife, Maureen, of Williamsburg, Brian Sloggie of Newport News; two daughters, Maudine Sandridge of Henrico and Jannine Goetz and her husband, Greg, of York County; 21 grandchildren, Jennifer Pierce and her husband, Jeff, Megan Moats and her husband, Zack, Angela and her fiancé, Rudy, Raymond, Amy Coston and her husband, Mike, Lauren Winters and her husband, Brian, Christopher, Charles, David, Casey, Brandy, Chelsea, Hailey, Emily, Melissa and Sarah; three great-granddaughters, Keara, Lillian and Kaydence; and three great-grandsons, Aren, Roan, and Brian. She also leaves to mourn her devoted sister-in-law, Violet Cavalcante of Baltimore, Md.; three nieces and one nephew.
She was a devoted mother who was always there for her children and taught them how to love. There are so many wonderful memories she has left us to reflect upon. Her death is so bittersweet, because we are saddened by it, but know that she is in the arms of our father whom she has missed so dearly. It brings us joy that they are together and, no doubt, on God's dance floor.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. Her funeral service will be conducted on Monday, July 8, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with entombment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
The family requests donations be made to Hospice.

I am so happy I was able to come up with my family and see you! You looked so beautiful and peaceful. :) Thank you for mine and Keara's necklaces. I will cherish it forever along with my memories of you. A few of Little Brian's toys have "Playmate, Come Out and Play with Me" on them and I smile every time I hear them and think of you in the kitchen singing. I love you and miss you so much! Please hug Grandy for me!

Good morning, Mom! You looked so peaceful and happy last night. You even had a little smile on your face as if you have found Dad, and other loved family and friends in Heaven. Lots of people came to see you and honor you last night, people I have not seen in years! You would have been proud! As we take today to lay you into your final resting place, know that you are well Loved, and fond memories will always be there. Peace be with you, Mom. I Love You! Ron

Our thoughts and prayers are with all Norma's friends and family during this time. She was such a truly special person who knew how to make the ones around her feel loved. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. I imagine her dancing and smiling in the arms of her loving husband, and smiling down on her family. Love from all of us.

Mom,
I love and miss you so much. We all knew this day would come, but not so quickly. I wish I had one more day at least so I could have said how much I love and will miss you.
You were a beautiful woman, inside and out. The outpouring of love that I have seen for you verifies to us that you not only impacted my life but oh so many.
We will be ok, but that will take time.I am so happy that I have so many wonderful memories of you.
I am so honored to have been at your side and guided you on to be with dad. I know how deeply you missed him.
Enjoy your dance sweet lady!
Love you,
Maudine
