I met Al as a fellow Crown Counsel in Surrey, but my relationship with Al went beyond the office to our annual Lobsterfest. When we first came up with the idea to have the Surrey Crown gather to watch me boil up some lobster Nova Scotia style and realized we may need a garage – it never rains in Vancouver – Al was quick to volunteer his yard. He always cleaned out the garage, but somehow it never has rained on the event. A big part of the fun of Lobsterfest for me was working with Al. Setting up in the late afternoon involved some lifting, but it also involved sitting down, having a beer and talking about how Dean and Joanne would have built the fence, or patio and how much of a ladies man Dean really was (what was his relationship with co-host #2). We also wondered if anything Norm built could actually be reproduced on the tools that even a well stocked woodshop has. Al’s yard was always spectacular and I am sure he also enjoyed hosting his friends and colleagues.

Al was a great co-worker, leader and mentor. Al could steer you in the right direction in a way that left you sure you had solved the problem on your own.

I would like to quote what someone who worked with Al said.
"Thank You God for the GIFT of AL"
How true and all who were priveleged enough to work with AL or meet him have nothing but the most wonderful memories including myself. God Bless each of you during this extremely difficult time.

On behalf of Sonia, Todd, and ourselves, we would like to thank everyone for your kind thoughts and rememberances.

All our love to you all, Kevin and Lori and Joshua, Tyler, Christopher

Dear Toddy and Family,
Although I never met Alan, I feel such sadness for his family. I have so many wonderful memories of sitting with Toddy on the steps near Tsukaguchi train station in Osaka after work drinking Chu-hi and making silly imitations of the infamous father.
I always looked forward to meeting Alan in person someday to see how close our imitations actually were. We'll just have to continue the silly imitating and keep his spirit alive instead.
My warmest thoughts are with you and your family, Toddy.
