It was my great pleasure and privilege to have worked with Al on a few notable transactions in the latter part of his business career. Always quick with a precise knowledge of the facts, the numbers and how best to interpret them, Al was an indomitable opinion leader in the boardroom. A witty, charismatic and forceful presence, he was one of the brightest leaders of his generation.
A voracious reader and an accomplished rower in his youth, one of his favourite books was The Boys in the Boat, the inspiring story about the improbable win by the US men's rowing team, at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Al faced a lot of adversity in his life, persevered and overcame it all. He will remain an inspiration to all who knew him.
