We are very sorry to hear of Don's passing. He was a such a great character. One fond memory we have was at playground opening, while Don was at the podium making a speech, his doctor called and he answered it. The mic was on! He was such a funny great man.

Laura

TSBC has received many emails expressing the sadness at Don's passing and sending their condolences to you, friends and family. These emails have come from across the country and below are just a few of the comments for a man that will be greatly missed by all that knew him:

"Don was a good guy and I enjoyed my interactions with him over the years"

"I fondly remember him contributing not only to tire related subjects, but life in general, always first there at meetings and sharing a story. He will be missed"

"Very sad news indeed. He was a "fixture " at the CATRA table for a very long time and for BC as well. He will surely be missed by all. RIP Don and deepest condolences to his family and friends"

"I am deeply saddened by this news. Don was not only my go to tire guy but a mentor to me and a great friend. My prayers are with the family and I know that we will all celebrate Don as only we can"

"Don was one of a kind. The short time I've gotten to know him, he was a say it like it is, hold nothing back kinda guy."

"I will miss him. Intelligent, principled, determined, but as kind a person as you would ever want to meet."

"A very sad day indeed. Don was a long time member of the OK Tire family and will be sadly missed by all who new him. Our deepest condolences to Dons entire family."

"The end of a very long era for sure. He did what he enjoyed doing right to the end, staying involved in the tire industry. We will all miss his insights and perspectives on the issues; he generally got to the point fairly quickly."

"He was a kind and thoughtful person who will be missed by all who knew him."

"Don will be missed and always remembered"

"Our thoughts are with Laura. Truly a loss to us all"

"Don will be missed. I liked him and admired his dedication to TSBC and the industry in Canada"

"Very sad day indeed. Don's will be missed around the board table. I always enjoyed his straight forward manner. Our condolences to his family and his staff"

"His quick wit and giant stature was matched and exceeded by his genuine concern for the industry and generosity with his time and knowledge. I count myself very lucky to have known him and been able to learn from him."

Laura, as you know, I will miss my friend.

Don was a big-hearted giant in our eyes, even after watching his weight reduce dramatically. His yearly Ticky-TICKIE-Ticky chant at the ACT Bonspiel in Marpole Curling Club meant that Al Ibsen's special lucky door prize draw number had been reserved. Steve Menzies and Don provided excellent customer service at OK Tires, Kingsway at Gilley, S.E. Burnaby location, making generous donations to help the event succeed. Don will be greatly missed. RIP. Dick of the Bill McEwen Rink.

I first met Don when I moved to the west coast as a young salesman and was immediately struck by his big personality, warmth and unswerving integrity. The Western Canada Tire Dealers, for whom I still work, owe him an immense debt of gratitude for all that he contributed on so many levels. He will be deeply missed. My condolences to Laura and the family, also on behalf of WCTD.

On behalf of the Big O Tires group in British Columbia we'd like to offer our deepest sympathy to Don's family for their sad loss. Don worked tirelessly and effectively for the betterment of the tire industry in Western Canada and he will be very much missed by all with whom he was associated. RIP
