BRASS, Edna Mathilda
Edna Brass of Key First Nation went home to heaven peacefully from Vancouver General Hospital surrounded by loved ones. She was predeceased by her parents Solomon Charles Brass, and Rebecca Grace Brass (O'Soup); and her siblings Ethel, Mary, Winston, Lawrence, Kathleen, Pauline, Elmer and Alvin, Sterling, Solomon, Walton and Victoria. She will be greatly missed by her surviving sister Grace Russell (Cecil); beautiful daughters Crystal, Nicole and Rebecca; grandchildren Damien, Cheyenne, Jacob, Ava and Emma; as well as many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. An advocate for Indigenous rights, Edna will be missed by the many wonderful friends she made through her kind and generous efforts to help the community. She will be remembered as a very outgoing, outspoken and kind-hearted soul who opened her door to help anyone in need. Her love for children was demonstrated repeatedly in her lifetime as an aunt, mother, and her most revered role as a grandmother - no words can adequately express the loss and emptiness her passing has left. We will never forget the day the Eagles came to escort her beautiful soul home. There will be a traditional wake held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Shaker Church 100 Capilano Rd. Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Shaker Church 100 Capilano Rd. Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Victory Memorial Park, 14831 28 Ave, Surrey, BC.

Dear Brass Family, I happened to know Edna Brass as a Facebook friend and I always adored her work and standing up for her people and the rights of the slain and wounded. I deeply have respected her and would have loved so much to meet her in person, which the universe has denied us. I consider her as one of the warriors which are standing as an example for the rest of us.Thank you Edna for the helpful shares we had, my heart will keep a candle for you burning Sincerely Uschi Seeley from Germany

Working with Edna in 2001, set the stage for so many important events in my life. Her work created a ripple in the water, and that ripple has reached all the shorelines. Thank you Edna. I miss you on Facebook. Rest well. Lots of love to the Brass family.

Thinking of your family, I did not know Edna but may have met her at the Brass reunion a few years back, I am a cousin, daughter of Margaret Evans [Field]. I am sorry for your loss, I see Edna is 7 years younger than myself and much too young to leave you. Thinking of you all in your sorrow, very sincerely, Lenore Radom, Richmond

Edna brought her strength and caring in her work in the community and helped many mothers in the DTES. She showed caring, compassion and was an important member of the Women's Memorial March. The separation of body and spirit. Her spirit lives on in her children grandchildren and all whose lives she touched... Many blessing to all her family and community members.
