My condolences on your loss. Franz's choice to be compassionate to an enemy, is an inspiration to us all

I am of German descent, a great great great grandchild of John Wetzel. You sir have demonstrated that there is humanity even in the enemy back then. This is another great story that makes me proud of my german/irish heritage.

Late this last year I returned from a tour with "operation Iraqi Freedom" Having read an account of Stigler's kindness I was very moved. I wish more of us could show this kind of compassion as I none overseas. May his family find comfort in knowing that thier loved ones greatness is so well know.

Mr. Stigler passed away on my birthday. That makes me sad, but it also means that I will think about him on my birthdays from now on. As the daughter of a WWII aviator and the wife of a career Air Force pilot now retired, I am touched by all stories of honor and bravery in the skies; but Franz Stigler's story is one for the ages. God bless him and his family.

I wish to extend my condolences to the Franz Stiger family. Truly, he was an extraordinary soul, full of loyality, yet deep compassion for mankind. I came across this story on snopes.com and was touched by the account of "The angel of mercy". Thank you, Franz Stiger...you make us proud, and I feel priviliged to have read of your kindness to Charlie Brown. We salute you. May your act of kindness make others wish to follow your lead. This story touched my heart deeply.
