Dearest Franz, your story so deeply touched me. My father flew a B-17, crashed, and was saved by French farmers. It takes people like you and they to make a safe and better world. Heaven rejoices as one of its own is called home.

I have read of the incident in WWII where Franz Stigler refused to shoot down a damaged plane, perhaps even guiding it back to its airbase.

What an honor for your family to know that your loved one will be known for generations to come as a model of courage, bravery, compassion and humanity.

I mourn the loss of such a man, yet I rejoice that he left such a positive mark in the world, and a legacy that we can all strive to emulate.

Truly an amazing story and even more the reunion of these men... Hope they will meet again

I never got to meet Franz personally but I had heard and read about his brave act of kindness and always respected him for his courage and chivalry. I served twenty years in the United States Air Force. He was a very courageous pilot and his act earned him the respect of all of us. God Bless him,now he flies in Heaven with the Angels of the Lord. I know your family is very proud. God Bless all of you.

Oberstleutant Stigler, I never had the honor of meeting you and recently learned of you and your story however I felt compeled to send my condolences to your family. I am a veteran of the United States Submarine Navy (Not During WWII) and am very proud of my service. I also honor and respect all veterans, regardless, for their service to their countries in times of need and for the sacrifices they make for their countries. There are very few men of your caliber. It must have been an honor to serve with you in defense of your country, and I would have been proud to serve with you. Your courage and dedication to duty are second to none.

Mr. Stiger was a true hero. As a veteran,I know that love of country is very important, but he showed love of his fellow man.

He was my hero God rest and bless his soul.

I have just had the privilege of reading of his heroic act during WW2. I think that during times of war we forget that the other side isn't just the enemy but rather many individual people complete with hearts, souls and compassion. My heart sank when I read that he had passed away. What an amazing man.

I read of Mr. Stigler's selfless act of chivalry in snopes.com. He has a good soul. I know it is blessed. People are the same all over the world. My condolences to Mr. Stigler's family.

My brother was a crew member on a B-24 during the war, flying many missions over Europe. Thank you Mr. Stigler for allowing a brave American crew to live. Rest in peace.

A man such as this is a loss to the world. His sheparding of the American B-17 toward a safe haven, rather than slaughtering the remaining crew shows true heroism in a time of war.
Thank you Franz. Rest in peace with God.
