Harvey Lenord Elder November 14, 1928 - December 12, 2012 Survived by his beloved wife Marian, daughter Connie (husband Bob), son Jamie (wife Laurie), granddaughter Madeline, brother Norris and sister Marie, and extended family. Predeceased by son Johnny, daughter Elizabeth, brothers Gordon and Tommy. Harvey was a Locker Man at Empire Stevedoring on the New Westminster waterfront from the age of 19, moving to Fraser-Surrey Docks and then Roberts Bank until his retirement at 65. He was a proud member of the ILWU and BC Fed, the NDP, and the Lax Kw'alaams First Nation. He worked hard and was generous to a fault. He was president of the East Burnaby Ratepayers Association for several years, and later served on the Burnaby Board of Variance, and on the board of the New Vista Society. He loved skating, fishing, and riding his bike around the neighbourhood. He had a great sense of humour, and loved nothing better than a good play on words. A boy at heart all his life, loved by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed.
Friends and family are invited to join in a celebration of Harvey's life on December 27 at 1:00 pm, at the Alan Emmott Centre 6650 Southoaks Crescent in Burnaby.

I am saddened by the loss of Mr. Elder. He was a kind and generous man who gave more to his community than anybody could ask. Thank you for letting us kids into your home while we were young. My thoughts go out to Marian Connie and to my dear old friend James.

Mrs. Elder, Connie, James,
I am very sad to hear of Harvey's death. My memories are of a strong, conscientious, gentle, compassionate person. I met Mr. Elder through James (we were in band together), at about the age when a teenager starts to think of grownups as real people, and I remember admiring his composure. Later on, I learned of him being a good union man, a life-long NDP-er, and being on the board at New Vista, where my dad was also a board member for many years. A good role model, and a good guy. I'm sorry for your and our loss.
