Jack was a great influence in my teaching career. He taught me by example. Observing his lessons and accompanying him on field trips and in establishing the Vancouver Elementary Science Teacher's Association. He did lead a very productive life.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Although I met jack much later in his and mine life I enjoyed listening to his stories during our Dogwoodies Christmas parties.
My condolences on his passing to the family.

I met and paddled with Jack and Elise on many trips run by the Dogwood Canoe Club starting with the Broken Islands trip on which if it moved, we ate it. I think they were also on Wally's famous Johnstone Strait trip when he was instructed to wake us to cross over if the weather was good. It's like a millpond, he yelled at 4am so we started out. Half way across the weather blew up but it was too late to turn around so we battled on to eat a well-deserved breakfast on the far side. Wally was told that in the future, we didn't want to paddle any of his Latvian millponds.
In later years, I was honoured to be invited along with Jack and Irene Apps to his family carol sings just before Christmas. I missed them so much, that this year I persuaded my neighbours to sing house to house round the block ending with hot chocolate inside.
I will cherish the good memories. Heather Harbord.

Elise and family,
I knew Jack through Burnaby Power & Sail Squadron. Jack was a Past Commander of Burnaby Squadron, but more importantly he was a squadron Training Officer. Jack had a generosity of spirit and relished imparting his knowledge to others. You will be missed Jack.

I was also one of Mr. Wainwright's students at Laura Secord Elementary School in the 60s. He was a great science teacher and he also coached our boys softball team. I still have a picture of the 63-64 team. He is one of my most memorable teachers.

Mr. Wainwright was our principal at Queen Mary and all I remember is good stuff about him. Condolences!

I remember Jack as my Vice-Principal at Kerrisdale. He was an amiable person, easy going. At that time he was eating an apple for lunch so he could fit into his beloved canoe!
