I am so sad to hear of Joan's passing. I am one of her dancers from almost 50 years ago - she was teaching from a home on 19th Ave and then on 10th Ave. I remember performing at many Vancouver Gaelic Society ceilidhs, at the Kitsilano Showboat, at care homes and travelling to 100 Mile House for a Burns Supper ( two dancers were from there). Joan made it fun to perform and it became more fun when she added her choreography. I remember her learning about kilt making - well before Youtube! In 1994 my mother was asked to recommend a Scottish dance group to travel and perform in France - she recommended Joan - I believe this was the start of the international travel. I met Joan at the Highland Games a few years back and she was very happy with her family, her work work as a teacher and her students. Joan was a great teacher and a lovely person.

I am so sad to hear of Joan's passing. She was such a huge part of my childhood. Both as a close family friend and as an incredible Highland teacher. A very bright light has gone out but I know that there are many many dancers carrying on her legacy. My love goes out to her loved ones.

Joan was a class act. She had an outstanding talent for teaching and choreography. She carried herself with grace and charm. Of course over her career, she influenced many. As long as there is Highland Dance, Joan will live on in her students and their progeny.

My condolences to you, Jim and the families. Joan was a gentle, caring person. I met her at the Blackthorn gigs and the Coquitlam Highland Games. I always enjoyed my talks with you and Joan. Take care, Jim.
