A great friend for more than 50 years since Mel and Bill first met back in the 1960's. Mona & Rita have been friends for even longer. Uncle Mel to our children, Cathie and Dave. In more recent years Mel was Bill's sounding board for computer, income tax and household repair questions. Mel & Rita have always been great hosts and we loved the boxing day parties. Mel will be greatly missed. Condolences to Rita and to Mike, Catherine, Alexandra and Emma in New Brunswick and Angela, Roger and Barbara in Los Angeles.

Uncle' Mal, thankyou for being an incredible friend to my parents. Your lives intertwine in ways that make for great memories and interesting stories. I'll always remember Boxing Day brunches. My thoughts are with you Auntie' Rita, Mike, Catherine, Alexandra, Emma, and family.
Love to all, Cathie

Dear Rita, Michael and family members.
Please accept our most sincere condolences. Mel was always bigger than life - the epitome of the expression 'joie de vivre' A wild sense of humour and a winning smile. Willing to lend a hand. A truly good neighbour. I so well remember when he purchased his first radial arm saw (it must be 45 yrs ago) and painstakingly built a beautiful, solid billiard table out of plywood, to exactingly precise dimensions. I've thought of following his example, but haven't found the same level of commitment (or skill). Mel was so proud of his family. Whenever we got together (which regretfully has not been for some time) he always boasted of Michael's successes. I also remember his talking of those many trips to the KOA campsite in Lynden. Being close to Sumas we frequently drive past the KOA property en route to Bellingham, and I always think of Mel and Rita - in my mind, it will always be your Whatcom county home. Spending those precious times with his family on many weekends, speaks volumes about Mel who was first and foremost. a strong family man.

Dear Rita, Michael and Family - please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your husband and father. I will always remember Mal for his inordinate ability to keep a straight face yet really "get me going". Such a wonderful sense of humour. May the passage of time ease your sorrow and your many fond memories sustain you.

We first met Mal over 47 years ago when he became our neighbor in Victoria. He was a great person and we enjoyed visits with him and his family over the years. We always loved his sense of humour.
