BARKESS, Marie Therese
March 30, 1943 - November 6, 2012
Marie went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is sadly missed by her loving family - husband Dick, her three children, Susan, Catherine and Richard and their spouses, Doug, Fred and Rachel and her five grandchildren, Alex, Duncan, Natalie, Megan and Hailey. She also leaves behind an extended family in England who deeply grieve her loss. She is predeceased by her brothers, Francis and John and by her sister Pat. Marie and Dick married in 1963 and shortly thereafter moved to Africa to live for five years before settling in Canada. The family have many warm memories of fun, laughter and adventure together. Marie and Dick had 49 years of loving marriage that will last on into eternity. Marie was a kind and generous person who loved her family deeply. She had a career in accounting as a CMA and enjoyed golfing and travel but by far her greatest joys were her husband and family and serving the Lord in ministry. She had a wonderful sense of humor that drew people to her and a kind spirit that loved to help others. Marie had a deep faith in the Lord and He carried her through her life and in her final days. We will have a memorial service for Marie on Saturday, November 10th at 2 pm at Granville Chapel located at 5901 Granville St, Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations to Pancreatic Cancer Canada would be greatly appreciated. Rest in the peace of the Lord, Marie.

Marie, you were the definition of a gentlewoman, and a very dear friend. We will fondly remember our Alaska cruise and the many laughs we had. Your sense of humour was infectious. Your pain is over. Rest in peace.

I will miss you terribly Marie. You were more than a friend, you were a sister. We went through a lot in the time we were colleagues and beyond and you were always there for me with your great sense of humour, wisdom and endless cups of tea.
It was a privilege to be part of your extended family and I will always cherish the memories. Rest in peace my dear, you have earned it.

Dick -- Marie was truly a beautiful person.
She shone the light of God in many, many ways. May the memories of your love shared comfort you now and forever.

I knew Marie through work at AMEC (formerly H.A. Simons). She was always kind and cheerful and I have very fond memories of her.
