Russ Brown and I had one of the most unusual friendships you could imagine. It started almost 20 years ago when Russ posted a question on a WWII history internet forum. I responded to his question and received a very polite 'thank you' in response. We quickly realized we had much in common with both a love of aviation and WWII history. Russ and I have exchanged literally thousands of emails over the years discussing everything from American politics to flying a visual approach into Hong Kong's Kai Tak airport. Russ and I never met, indeed we never even spoke over the phone. But we developed an enduring friendship that I will always treasure. I miss him terribly.

Fly Safe Captain Brown.

I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. Please find peace and comfort in Psalms 119:76.

Joan & family, So sorry to hear this sad news of Russ's passing. Thinking of you in your time of sorrow. Wendy & Dick Griffiths (Tsawwassen)

Because I fly I see things others can not.
I have been welcomed by the sun
while embracing orange clouds.
I have felt the wealth and freedom of space
and the sorrow of earthlings.
I have seen unclimbed peaks and the
rainbows secret.
I know the reason birds fly and
I envy no man on earth.
Now I will never run out of runway,
airspeed or fuel.
For HE is a pilot too.

Joan and Family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you grieve the loss of a husband, father, grandfather and friend. Kim and I consider ourselves very fortunate to have known Russ and Joan and to be able to count them as 'friends'.

Joan and family - my heart broke when I saw this announcement of Russ's passing. He was such a special caring wonderful man. I so enjoyed working with him on Charitable Donations at Canadian Airlines. He was always one to volunteer his time and assistance. As secretary in Fight Operations he was a joy to work with and one of my favorites. Please know how much I care and send you all a huge hug of remembrance of a very special man.
