Thinking about you lots brother. Miss you.
RIP Woody. It was my honor and pleasure to have played ball with you.
Today, I went to Sam's. I thought I'd be okay. After awhile, I had a flood of memories of you...of us. I broke down crying. These memories made me smile, and sad. But I stayed strong, like you always wanted us to be.
Just hope you know, John Wood, not a day goes by that I don't think about you.
I can't stop thinking about you Babe! I will miss you forever!! I love you!
Woody, you will always be in my mind.
Neke - Brasschaat - Belgium
Bless your mind and soul.
Why is it that wonderful people always take their last flight too soon?
Generaly speaking, the last day of the year has to be a special one, one full of joy, looking back to what you have accomplished the last 365 days. Well I was planning to do that, untill one hour ago, I received the tragic news... This day will not be the same I had in mind. I will cherish the wonderful moments together for the rest of my life, one of them, driving to S.H.A.P.E. ( American Base ) in Belgium on a beautifull sunny day in my Volkswagen, Simple Minds coming out of the cd player, getting some Redman chewing tobacco. With The Brasschaat Braves, you pushed us to the limit, and sometimes far beyond, it is a lesson I still use today. Woody it was a privilege to know you, to be your roomy during roadtrips, and to be a friend forever. The last time we met, was in 1998, when you invited me over to your home in Oxnard, where I had the chance meeting your wonderful family, I remember we went to Sams, your favourite sportsbar, and in the morning you cooked breakfast. The next time I will see you, will be up there, and we all will play ball again. I am sure that where you are right now, there must be a beautiful ball park, otherways you wouldn't walked through the tunnel of light.
Thank you for changing the lives of many people the positive way.
Till we meet again big friend.
Lisa, Chelsea and Johnson, I wish you a lot of strength and all the best.
Love you so much.

My prayers go out to Johns family and kids. I remember months would go by before we saw each other at "Sam's" and he would always be the first one to greet me! And we would pick up our conversation like it was yesterday. John had a great knowledge for the game and he always made me laugh.Truly a great friend that will be sorely missed. R.I.P my friend.
My memories of John go back to Freshman year at Hueneme High. Science class, he sat in front of me, and we became friends, cause thats what John did! My heart is heavy for his family! My prayers go out to everyone who was close to him! You will be greatly missed at the Hueneme High reunions!
My heart aches for Johns family and friends. The boys that played ball together and spent so much time with each other was a special time for us all.We as parents loved you.May God comport his family.
John had such an outgoing character and always made for great times. What an athlete he was, and a man who loved his children very much. He touched many of lives in positive ways. Rest in peace where now you are in the embrace of GOD's love..Ain't no pain there man.
I will remember John spending time at our home of Mr. & Mrs D, and the great times watching John & my brother Rob playing baseball. May the good memories of John be remembered, God Bless the Wood family.
John was my best friend. We had a lot of exciting adventures. When we fought John would never hit my face. John was a good boy. John was a kind boy. John and his little sister were always in our house. We took care of each other, you know, neighbors. John loved his baby sister and she loved her "bubba" John. John loved his big brother Melvin too. Mel took me and John out with him and his friends sometimes (Mel was a superstar super cool athlete/human being at Hueneme High School before John).
John came to visit me in jail when I was at my lowest and he told my mother that I was a good boy,"that's why I got caught".(That meant alot lot to my mom ).
John told my wife that his mom always told him "why can't you be like Peter?" (That meant a lot to my wife). That is the kind of person John was. He was building me up in the eyes of my dearest ones. Thank you John.
Imagine how much John loves his wife and kids. John is a good boy. Why can't you be more like John?
I took John surfing at Hollywood beach on a BIG day and he made the paddle-out. John had never been on a surfboard before. John was held under for a long time. He made it out . He was alive , connected, and real. True blue.
My friend. Gold.
You were my coach, my neighbor, and a good friend. I'll always remember those rides home from practice in your old concrete truck with the empty cans of Copenhagen covering the dashboard. We always had great conversations whether be in the truck on the way home or just BS'ing in the front yard. Thanks for all the great stories you told and the time you took to make me and my friends better men. You'll definitely be missed.
I was sorry to hear about John, I had seen him at a store a few months ago we talked about what we had been doing since we had seen each other last. My heart goes out to his family he will truly be missed. God Bless You
Outstanding talent greater character! I remember John's caps looking too big but his head never got larger than his cap. For those who never were dedicated to a purpose, experienced defeat as well as victory, worked to help his teammates and friends, never made excuses always accepted responsibility for his actions, and so many more areas then they never lived the John Wood experience. John acknowledged defeat however he never accepted it. He would work to make sure it didn't happen again and help others to never accept defeat. John was a leader by example. It was truly my honor to have been one of John's coaches but the best honor more than coach-player was that we were good FRIENDS!
The Tackett Family sends our thoughts , prayers and good memories to all of John's Family.
Hopefully this may help- Grieve for as long as it takes then remember forever.

Your presence was contagious and always ignited the realm for greater possibilities. Your leadership and zeal for others (and the game) indelibly changed all who knew you. Baseball was your passion but friends and comrades were your reason. To know you was to witness Authentic Woody. Nobody I have ever met resembles you. I have been blessed to have walked with you, laughed with you, and kept you near in my memory. Your time to rest has come. Be at peace my friend.
woody....thanx for all the ball knowledge. RIP my friend

You were such a great friend, your personality & smile were unmatched, you were as blunt as they came, yet you lived life on your own terms. Your legacy was stamped as one of Ventura Cty's Greatest Baseball Players of All Time, playing alongside some of the majors greatest...yet passing up the stage to live amongst us..& to coach the up and coming lil leaguers...The Lord now opens the gates & throne to have you along his side...May you Continue playing in the Heavens my Great Friend...and may you continue to bless your family from this point forward; till we meet again.

John was one of the hardest working, most dedicated, and competitve players to ever come through the Hueneme High School baseball program. He was always available to help coach and assist players during my tenure as head baseball coach. I will forever remember his toughness, his unwillingness to give in, his competitiveness, his positive attitude and his sense of humor. You have left us to soon John and the void you have left will never be filled. My sincere sympathy to his children and his family.

Woody, you pushed me, you drove me, and motivated me. Every time I tell my son, "Expect a good hop, but be prepared to handle the bad ones", I think of you. On or off the baseball field, I use that quote in everyday life situations, expect the best but be prepared to handle the worst. I am trying to handle this news the best I can Coach, rest in peace.
