Our wonderful, witty and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Ida Kyle, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 to her Heavenly home six months shy of her 100th birthday on August 9. She was one of six children born to Peter and Anna Hartveld who arrived in Oxnard from Holland in 1910, settling on the Patterson Ranch west of Oxnard.
The ranch house where Ida and the other Hartveld children were raised is now part of Oxnard's Heritage Square. Ida married Kent Kyle in 1937 and they moved to Camarillo in 1941. She began working at the Camarillo Bank of America in September 1947 as personal secretary to the manager. She then became its first escrow officer in 1955 and assistant cashier in 1965, retiring in November 1979 after 32 years. After retirement, Ida spent many hours of each day in her garden consisting of dozens of roses, orchids and camellias among other flowers. She was adept at climbing ladders to paint the trim on her house and using equipment to build patio covers and garden art. She attended almost all the various sports activities her great-grandchildren participated in and was their most ardent fan.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband Kent in 1960 and four siblings. She is survived by her only child, daughter and son-in-law Donna Lee and Jack Taylor; granddaughter Kelley Goodwin (Tim); grandson Rod Taylor; great-granddaughter Kristie Gillispie (Donnie); great-grandson Timmy Goodwin (Lauren); great-great grandchildren Raif Lawrence, Jack, Kodie, and Donnie Gillispie Jr., and Rowan Goodwin; sister Priscilla Hivner (all of Ventura County) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She touched each of our lives in a very special way and will always be wonderfully loved and missed.
Great appreciation is extended to Ashley's Manor II and the wonderful owner, Maricar, and caregivers Aileen, Edna and Jodie who treated her like family, making her life the best possible. A special thank you to Assisted Hospice for the care and concern they provided.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 12 at Griffin Family Funeral Chapel, Camarillo, from 5 -8 p.m. The memorial service will also be at Griffins on Thursday, March 13, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul Phillipps of Pleasant Valley Bible Church officiating. Ida was a fine example of our "Greatest Generation" and she had a good, long stay with us. We can take comfort in that she's now resting in our Father's arms. Our condolences to Donna Lee and Jack.
