Robert Jordan Obituary

Robert Ernest Jordan

Oxnard, CA

Robert Ernest Jordan was born on December 20, 1919, in Hutchinson, Kansas and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 4.

He enlisted into the Navy in October 1940, serving first as a machinist's mate salvaging sunken ships in Pearl Harbor, and later becoming a Naval Aviator, flying dive bombers from Norfolk, VA. to the USS Valley Forge. He was released to inactive duty in 1947. He was recalled into the Navy in 1953, serving with Fighter Squadron 123 and 143 during the Korean War.

Robert graduated from UCLA and the College of Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons with a D.O. degree and later an M.D. degree. He opened a general medicine practice in Port Hueneme and built a home on Silver Strand beach in 1963. He finished a residency in Pathology at Wadsworth V.A. Hospital, Los Angeles, after completing his board certifications in Pathology plus three sub specialty boards in Pathology. He ran the laboratory at Oxnard Community Hospital until it closed in 1988. Robert then worked for the St. John's Hospital Pathology group until retiring at age 88.

Robert was a member of the California Masonic Lodge for over fifty years.

Robert is survived by his wife Donna, of 37 years; three daughters Shannon Jordan-Burger, Stephanie Stichler and Robin Gallagher and four grandchildren, Ella, Cameryn, Ava and Jordan.

On Friday, April 8, 2016, Robert died peacefully at home and his last recorded comment, true to his love of aviation was, "Thank you all; it's been a good run."

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 15, 2016, 10:00 A.M. at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura with The Reverend Dan Hull officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com.

What a sad surprise to learn of Bob's passing. I was just getting ready to send Bob a xmas card and saw this enexpected news. i have been a very close friend since college days at UCLA in the late forties. He was truly one of the greatest generation: tough, uncomplaining, yet very considerate and loving. He was a super pathologist and kept up to snuff on the latest literature no matter how old he got. He made superb laboratory diagnoses on thousands of patients. I miss you Bob.

I only met Robert a couple of times a few years ago at the Channel Islands YC. He always seemed to be a very nice man. Many of our long time members remember him well. It is sad to loose another member of our nations Greatest Generation, they brought us through the trials of WWII.
