I love this photo of Jerry! It reminds me so much of the first time I saw him. I was a nervous applicant to his medical illustration program and had flown all night from California to Ann Arbor to have an interview. Jerry was welcoming, quickly helping me feel comfortable at Med Sci II which was home to the department in 1983. We had a great talk and then he showed me around a large studio filled with students excited about drawing medical subjects! I was thrilled to be invited to join the program the next year and, when I returned the program did not dissapoint. Jerry, I know that wherever you are now you are completely engrossed in a drawing, probably involving a new technique you've just developed, possibly one using coffee grounds, but certainly the end result will be magnificently done.

When I woke this morning, I remembered there was one person less on the planet to love. It was not unexpected,not even unwanted, but sad just the same.
Jerry had the magical gift of magnetism. Everyone who knew him loved him. He was my best friend here in Ann Arbor and I can only say that he made my life a lot more interesting and fun. I don't think I a day will pass without remembering some fond memory of Gerald.

My family and I extend our deepest condolences to Jerry's closest. Jerry was a special, caring, kind, talented, wonderful and extraordinary man, who offered so much to the world. He will be sorely missed and will surely maintain a place in many people's hearts.

We fondly remember Mr. Hodge as neighbors and then as friends. We had a wonderful time with him last year in Florence, Italy. He was a very kind and thoughtful person.
