I know it is nearly 3 years since "Wonderful Walt " has passed on but, I think about him everyday and will think about everyday until I die.

He was my boyhood hero. His picture from Sports Illustrated graced my bedroom door, I wore sweatbands , rolled my socks the same way he did, made the same facial features when I played, wore number 42 when I could.

I played in high school and college. I coached Jr. college basketball and did it his way, with class.

Then I had the PLEASURE to meet him at a final 4 in Seattle , Washington when he got the UCLA job. We had a drink and I told him about my admiration for him. He was humbled that a layman like me admired him so. I had a friend take picture of us and the smile I have on my face would win any contest in America pertaining to smiles. That same friend had

that blown up for me and gave it to me for a Christmas gift.

I still having it hanging with all my sports awards.

Finally, we both are Kappas and that bought us great joy. Even thou this may never be read because of its tardiness , it has given me joy to write and say REST IN PEACE and MAY GOD BLESS YOU>>>> The greatest basketball player ever.

To:

Jalessa Yakub, Jalal, and Rasheed: Your Dad and my dear friend made me better man because of who he was and the way comported himself. The times we had shooting hoops at the basket in the driveway on Virginia. And, through Walt, I met John Wooden. How do I ever top that. We can't and wouldn't if we could.

From Diane, Krista Denise and the six grandkids we have been blessed with, together, we will never forget the man and heaven is a better for the appearance of da man!!!

To the Hazzard family.... will always remember Walt from my childhood and the 1964 team. My dad recruited Walt for UCLA and coached him and I would hang around the old women's gym at practice watching him play. Many memories... God bless Jaleesa and your boys. You will always be in all of our hearts.

Maisha, Alexina, Jalessa and to the rest of the family... People usually say that they are sorry for your loss. I know that you haven't lost Walt because he will always be in your heart and you will see him in his children, the kids he coached and in his friends. God blessed us all by his presence in our lives. We celebrate his presence and we release him with love, blessings and eternal light as he moves on to the next phase of his spiritual journey. Eternal peace, love, joy and enlightenment always.
