I was saddened when my brother called me to inform me of Wardell's passing. I am currently being treated at M. D. Anderson Cancer Ctr in Houston, Texas and will have to miss all services.

As talented as he was, and as beautiful a person he was two things I will remember about him the most, having breakfast with him in France during the Jazz a' la Vienne Festival; and serving on a panel to discuss music education with Wardell, myself and Wilbert Rawlins that was co-ordinated by Al Kennedy during Jazz Fest in NO about 3 yrs. ago. It was a special honor to be in his presence both times, and very cherished memories as it was so interesting to hear him talk about his life's experiences first hand, which he did so willingly, and so naturally.

My condolences to the family, and tell the Count, and the Duke and Teddy Wilson and Oscar Peterson to take a break, the "Creole Beethoven" is coming to "sit in" !

You will be missed by so many. You know that you were a cornerstone to us and a mapmaker and guide for the world to our music. I won't ask "whereyeat" cause I know. Much love to you and your family.

Lesley, and entire Family,

In Memory of your Father,

"This world is not conclusion,
A sequel stands beyond,
Invisible as music,
But positive as sound."

~Emily Dickinson

Our thoughts and prayers
are with you and your family.
God Bless, Pam & Neil, your neighbors in Metairie.
