To the family and friends of Spc. Aaron L. Preston:
Always remembering Aaron. "Some gave all."
October 30, 2012
To Aaron's family,
I was a childhood friend of Aaron's. I was just made aware of his sacrifice. I am so sorry that I was not there at his funeral. He was such a great friend and kid. His mother was my cub scout den mother and was so wonderful. She is missed as well. If I could say anything to him I would hope that he knows that he will never be forgotten. He will always have a special place in my heart. I regret that I will never have the chance to reconnect with him and thank him for everything he has done for us all. My hero.

I attended Aaron's burial with my son to both show my last respects to a local hero and demonstrate to my son the sacrifice that men and women have made to protect the freedoms around the world. My son has always had an interest in serving his country since he was just a small child. He needed to see first hand the impact of war on families. I remember the quiet ride back from National Cemetery and pulling into the drive and asking my son if he was sure he wanted to enlist. I will never forget his answer " more today Dad than ever before". I am a proud father just as I'm sure Aaron's family is proud of him. Hayden will ship off to Marine boot camp in less than two weeks. Today as a nation, we honor those that made the ultimate and unselfish sacrafice. Today you are still my hero.

My son was just awarded a scholarship in your memory. Thank you for your service to our country and your sacrifice. Words could never express our sorrow that you sacrificed your life for our freedoms. Thank you to you and your family that your continued gift will help my son to achieve his dreams.
