She was the beloved mother of Matthew Whitcomb (Debbi), Julie Whitcomb (Mark Doeler), and Wendy Whitcomb (Daryl Leckron), and the devoted and loving grandmother of Jeremy, Amy, Zoee, and Margot. She was the widow of Dr. David T. Whitcomb. For the past seven years, she was an active member of the Red Hat Society. Barbara helped others in her careers as well, especially disabled children and less fortunate seniors, as an Occupational Therapist and a Legal Assistant. She also was the first woman to serve on the Washington County, MD Planning and Zoning Commission. Barbara lived in Silver Spring for more than three decades. Previously, she resided in Hagerstown, MD, several cities in Ohio, and Munich, Germany. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the Reception Hall at Brookside Gardens Visitors Center, 1800 Glenallen Avenue, Wheaton, MD 20902.
