CHESTER JOSEPH HILDRETH (Age 78)
On Wednesday, September 17, 2014, of Beltsville, MD. Beloved husband of the late Carolyn Helen; father of Helene (David) Stever, Colleen (Dave) Kennedy, John (Noelle) Hildreth and Robert (Kristy) Hildreth. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Hildreth served in the United States Army & was a retired Sergeant of the Metropolitan Police Department, Special Operations Division. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Sunday, September 21 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Western Ave. at Quesada St., NW, Washington, DC on Monday, September 22 at 11 a.m. Entombment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Archdiocese of Washington, O.Y.M/C.Y.O., P.O. I never called Chester Hildreth by that name. I called him Buddy Hildreth and more than one time he was always there to help me when I was in trouble with an arrest in old #13 Precinct. He was always a gentleman, and a thoughtful person. But most of all I will miss those pitch games.
I will never forget him and I will keep him in my heart forever.

It was my honor to serve with Sgt. Hildreth in SOD. He was one of a dedicated group of officers who handled many highly sensitive situations in the most professional manner that brought recognition to the MPDC and SOD. He was an excellent,dedicated and respected official. My sympathies to his family.

I am so deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your father and my dear coach and fellow basketball official. It seems like yesterday he was piling 14 young girls in his Pinto during a practice to keep us out of the rain. He was a great man and after all these years he can finally be reunited with your Mom. I can not make the services since I am out of town but I will be keeping the whole Hildreth and Condon family in my prayers.

I worked with Chet in SOD and as a basketball official for many years. He was always professional and fun to work with. He was caring when I lost my Mom and Dad and always kept in contact with me. He will be missed by all that knew him.
