My sincere condolences to the Katzen family. I just learned of Dr. Katzen's passing and I am terribly saddened. I had many real estate dealings with Dr. Katzen while working at Rite Aid years ago and always remembered him so fondly. He used to buy me Peking Duck for me at the Chinese restaurant near his office whenever I was in town and we had a meeting. Such a very, very nice, kind hearted man. He'll always be dear to my heart. I can only imagine how hard this loss must be to his beloved family. You were very fortunate to have him in your lives for 91 years although that was too short for someone as wonderful as Dr. Katzen.

Dear Myrtle S. Katzen and Family,
In addition to Cyrus Katzen's exceptional familial and personal qualities, his memory will always be imprinted on the cultural and artistic scenes of the greater Washington DC community due to his generosity and communal dedication.

Dr. Katzen was a generous benefactor to CentroNía, a nonprofit serving low-income children, youth and families in DC and MD. He supported our annual fall art galas with generous sponsorships and expressed his concern for our kids and his hope that our mission would thrive.

When we hold our 2009 Fall Art Gala at the elegant Katzen Arts Center at American University on Nov. 6th, he will be at the center of our thoughts.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Katzen for all he did for the children of CentroNia and express our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katzen, the entire Katzen family and his devoted staff at Culmore Realty.

I give my great condolences to the family Katzen.

Dr. Cyrus Katzen was one whom I admired because of his great accomplishments. He gave me the opportunity to work for him, and I thank him for that.

A quote that I would like to share with the Katzen family:
" All of you shouldn't be sad for loosing such a wonderful man, but instead you should be grateful to have had such a great man like him. "

Cy was a wonderful mentor and treasured friend and our community will miss him terribly. His contributions to the Washington community will live on forever. My deepest condolences to all the Katzen family during this time of great sorrow. May your memories of the wonderful times you shared with him sustain you during this difficult time.

I was indeed honored to call him my friend.

Dear Myrtle and Family,
How saddened I was to learn that Cy had passed away. It has truly been a privilege to know both of you and how much you have meant to The Lab School! The two of you have been so supportive of the mission and goals of the school and have been a huge help in our major projects.

I have wondeful memories of seeing you both at the last GALA...what a handsome couple! I am so grateful that
Cy was able to write and publish his book and that I had the opportunity to read it. His life story is inspiring and so impressive.

He will always be remembered for his love of family, success in business, commitment to the Arts, along with his dedication to helping others through his philanthropic endeavors. The Lab School, the city of D.C.,and the entire country, indeed the world share your loss. He truly made the world a better place and all of us who knew him feel very blessed. Hopefully the memories of your time and accomplishments together will give you strength during this difficult period.
With love,
Sally Seawright

I may not have known this great man personally, but the contributions he and his wife have made to American University in with Katzen Arts Centre will stand as a testament to his love of art.

As a current student at American University who plans on playing in the pep band, I forsee utilizing the practice rooms and going through the art gallery many times during my time here.

Thank you for your contribution, Dr. Katzen. You will be missed by many.

Cyrus was our mothers nephew. She often talked about Cy and Berney. The first time I met Cy, my brother Jack was working for him. Cyrus introduced us to his "talking" dog. He tried to convince us that the dog really talked. I didn't buy into that, until I heard the dog say "the deals the thing". My deepest condolences to the Katzen family. Cyrus was a generous, funny, good man. You can't want more than that from anyone.
