ERIN M. TERVO (Age 43)
On Sunday, September 6, 2015, of Columbia, MD. Beloved wife of Jon R. Tervo; mother of Shannon, Megan and Caitlin; daughter of Paul and Kathleen McCauley; sister of Patrick McCauley, Jennifer Farrell, Kevin McCauley and Timothy McCauley; daughter-in-law of Robert and Betsy Tervo; sister-in-law of Laura Tervo. Relatives and friends may call at St. John the Baptist Church, 12319 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, 20904 on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 12 at 10 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations should be directed to the Erin Tervo Memorial Scholarship Fund at St. John the Baptist Catholic School at the address above.www.COLLINSFUNERALHOME.com

Erin was a wounderful gift to the school. I have been a member of the parish since 1963. It was the largest funeral I
have ever attended at St. Johns. That shows how much she was loved.
It was a honor tobe one of the Arimatheans for the Mass.

The teachers and staff of St. John the Baptist School have been changed forever, not by Erin's death, but by her life. She taught every child here the Catholic liturgy and made it special and personal for each one of them. She gave hundreds of children their only memories of acting and singing on stage. She made every place better, brighter by her presence. Our hearts are broken, but we will carry the spark of hers forever.

Yesterday, we were shocked to learn of Erin's passing - such a beautiful life - a devoted wife, mother,teacher, family member... all those touched by her are grieving.
We have fond memories of Erin. She and Jon's family grew to five with three beautiful daughters, Shannon, Megan and Caitlin.

Though I never met Erin I have had the pleasure and honor of working with her mother, Kathleen. At Kathleen's retirement party I asked her what she planned to do with all her free time. Besides travel she said, enjoy and spend time with the family.
Where too many live to work, Kathleen worked to live and the sheer fact that she recognized the importance of family gives me an idea of the values she passed on to Erin and her family.

"We do not know the day or hour." My heart was saddened and my mind shocked ... it is difficult to comprehend the news of the sudden and tragic death of an incredible individual, wonderful mother, wife, sister, daughter, musician, friend, teacher and person. So hard to understand and grasp the sudden passing of the wonderful Erin McCauley Tervo. She touched so many lives in her short time on this earth. She surely made the world a better place through her smile, her kindness, her musical talents and ability, her love for math and her bright & shiny personality. I first met Erin when she played the flute in church when she was still in grade school. I remember when she went off to college at Notre Dame - oh how much she loved it there! I recall fondly when she decided to make teaching math her career, one she loved and certainly passed that love on to many students through her excellent teaching skills. She will be missed by so many. I will continue to keep her husband, Jon, and their three beautiful daughters, Shannon, Megan and Caitlin (5th, 3rd and 1st graders), in my thoughts and prayers, as well as her parents, Kathleen and Paul Mccauley, her sister and brothers and her extended family and many friends. She touched so many lives in a positive way and was such a humble and kind individual. She is missed by countless people who had the privilege of knowing such a wonderful woman.

We are shocked and heartbroken for the Tervo and McCauley families. We have grown to know little Megan well through her close friendship at school with our son John Paul. Erin was wonderful to chat with and a nice woman and adored mother. We are very sad the Tervo girls will have to grow up without her and that Jon is missing out on sharing his life with his bride. We will do our part at school to show the girls love and attention over the years to come as they are all in the same grades as our kids. We will continue to share those memories with the family and capture moments in photos as always. We know Erin is watching her girls from Heaven above with love. We pray for peace in your hearts and healing of the ache of grief with each passing day. We are so sorry for your loss. She is gone too soon!
