Heartfelt sympathy and love to Fred's family. We knew Fred and Betty as parishioners at Nativity in DC, and we will never forget their powerful, joyful , loving, leadership. To anyone who asks what it means to be a Christian, the answer is Fred and Betty Leone. The number of people who flocked to (and into) their home over the decades of their amazing marriage is simply astonishing. And those people, scattered everywhere, bear in their hearts and lives the help and guidance Fred and Betty gave them with such generosity. We were heartbroken not to have been able to attend Fred's funeral, but we want to share with you how much we loved, revered, and respected him. We will never forget Fred and Betty, and we trust that their amazing faith will sustain all of you through all your lives. They were just incomparable, and now they are together with the God they followed so brilliantly to the end of their days.

I fondly remember Fred and Betty from the 1980s, when they lived in Washington and were dedicated justice and peace, as well as welcoming hosts to those of us who came to their home. It was an honor to know them both -- may they rest in peace. With sincere sympathy and prayers for their family and friends --

I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this challenging time. (Isaiah 61:1,2) With heartfelt sympathy.
