My sisters, Anna, Julie and I, as well as our families traveled to Limekiln Lake in the Adirondacks a few weeks ago to see where our father had spent many of his summers growing up. We celebrated his life once more.

My brother and I were students of Mr. Harrison at Charlie Byrd's in the early 70's, and our mother worked there as the receptionist. We got to hang out there with all the great ones that came through. How cool was that! Mr. Harrison, it's good to smile your seeing face!

I can remember like yesterday Louise and Richard visiting my class at Butler Montessori when JWALK 91 was little, singing and playing with the young children. Sharing their gifts and hearts. I will always remember how special he was.

Sorry to hear about cousin Richard. I will pass the word on to my mom, Ruth Mealand Schwartz. She, too, was born in Binghamton, NY a year earlier, in 1918. We plan to celebrate her 95th birthday this weekend.

My mother, Nancy Holt Miller, will be very sorry to hear this. I feel like he's the last cousin of her generation, although I'm not sure that's true.

Richard's birthday is today, so I decided to Google him. And this obit came up! I am so damn hurt. He was my rock, the only man I ever put on a pedestal. The best dad ever. When people asked me what my farther did to a living, I always asked "which one?" Richard nicknamed me Red C. and I use that to this day. His marriage with Kathe (Floete Hedegaard Harrison) showed me that grand passions sometimes do last until death. I'll miss him so. Always thought, I'll call him tomorrow. He was so strong. I'm orphaned yet again. BUT, I've got super memories of Richard and those are priceless. I'll cherish what I had. Lovies - Red C.

My Memories of Dick Harrison by Marci

Dick was the cool Dad in the neighborhood. Dick didn't mind spending time with the kids and he was willing to give us a ride when we wanted to go some place.
I have fond memories of Dick taking us girls out uncle wiggly road as we called it to the riding stables he always made it fun with all the humpty dumps. Holly and Anna would always make me sit up front with Dick because he would slap anyone who sat there on the thigh real hard and say in my case My ya Harce meaning Hi ya Marce.
Dick was a good sport he would eat anything we fixed him. Holly and I used to make Dick what we called minno eggs which was short for minute eggs because it only took a minute to cook them in a pan full of hot bacon grease. He had peanut butter on his toast. We were just learning to cook and thought this was great fun.
My favorite Dick song was Momma, Momma, Momma what makes you so mean. You washed my teddy bear in the washing machine.
Dick was always ready to share a joke or a song and I can't remember him ever getting angry as most of the other Adults did.
I can remember the names of the other Fathers in our neighborhood but that is about all not one made the impression that Dick did, he was a really great guy.
I am sure he has a place In God's rhythm section and is making everyone laugh as he did when he was here with us.

When I was a youngster in the late 60s and early 70s Mr. Harrison taught me both guitar and music theory at Charlie Byrd's Music House in Bethesda. He taught me well and was tolerant of my idiosyncrasies! Rest in Peace, Mr. Harrison!

My favorite memories of spending time with Richard are those of visiting with him and Louise in Chevy Chase (they taught me to enjoy old British TV and humor), and singing with him at home, as he played piano for us girls.

It's been awhile since I spent time with Richard. The last time I saw him he seemed so happy to be visiting his Zearing family, socializing and writing lots and lots of poetry. I regret not visiting him in his care home, when I was in Albuquerque in May. Reflecting on the passing of Richard, makes me really miss him and reminds me of the importance of spending time with family and to tell them what they mean to me before they are gone...

Goodbye Richard, you were always a sweet Grandpa and you meant a lot to me.

I am happy to hear the service was cheerful. I am uncertain of additional contact info, and I do not know how to pass on a private message;
Has anyone contacted Eric and Caroline, Jennifer

My father would have loved the memorial service we had for him yesterday! There was music, poetry, humor and a presentation of the American Flag to my son Alex (the oldest grandchild) for my dad's WWII service. The playing of taps brought tears to our eyes and I really felt dad's presence and a little nod from up above. Love you daddy.

Julie, Holly, Anna and yours,

So sorry for your loss but glad that you are honoring him with the celebration of being together.

Dick, my Godfather, was such a laid back, cool cat, whose love of his girls was always special and a strong light in his full life. My thoughts are with you all in the loss of your Dad; may the space he left be filled with the warmth of his memory.

Love,
Kennie

I am shocked to hear of Richard's passing. He seemed invincible. We will always remember his incredible spirit. He made our mother very happy . My condolences to his daughters and grandchildren.
