Our heartfelt condolences go to Mrs. Kranking's loved ones. One of my Coast Guard assignments included the CG's national command center in Washington, DC, which includes the Commandant's Situation Room. The ornate, wood-paneled space was where the top officials in the service received briefings, and it's decorated with artwork depicting the CG in action. One day in the Situation Room, my eyes strayed from the briefing presentation to a piece of art showing a CG buoy tender. I noted the artist's name was "Kranking." Later that day, I called Tate to tell him about my discovery, upon which he replied, "That's my Mom's painting!" I learned that Mrs. Kranking had done several pieces of CG-themed artwork, and can attest they've been proudly viewed by Coast Guardsmen far and wide over many years. We are forever grateful for those blessings from Mrs. K.

Andy, Anne Marie and David,
I am very saddened by your mom's death.
I studied with her. She was a wonderful teacher and a wonderful person. I wish I had seen her more recently. If there is any cause to contribute in her memory, please let me know.
