WILLIAM MOONEY Obituary

WILLIAM E. MOONEY "Bill"
Born January 6, 1942, to the late Ed and Dorothy Mooney, passed away quietly in his sleep at his home in Leisure World, Silver Spring, MD on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. William was the beloved father of Kim (Casey) and Kathy; grandfather of Charlie, Molly, Maggie and Billy; brother to Jim (Mary), Barbara Walter (Larry), Veronica Cosker (Jerry), Michael (Luisa) and Larry (Mollie); and uncle to 10 nieces and nephews. Bill grew up in Washington, DC, attended Blessed Sacrament School and John Carroll High School. He was retired from a sales career and now worked for Enterprise Cars. Bill was a fun-loving grandfather who adored his grandchildren and always had lollipops in his pockets for them. He was a big Redskins fan, loved to play golf, went to Nationals Spring Training in Florida, followed all sports on TV, and watched The Price Is Right and Jeopardy. Bill was a movie and music trivia buff and did crossword puzzles daily. He was loved by all. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd., Silver Spring, MD on Monday, December 9, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Washington, DC at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

I just found out this past Saturday that Bill had passed. I was totally shocked! We normally got together each week, but I knew somehting was amiss when his phone was not in service. I will miss him!!

My deepest condolences to the entire Mooney family. Your family was almost an extended family of ours as we grew up on Military Rd. Being the youngest of the Kenealy clan I often sat on my mother's lap as our mothers talked about their children sharing their joys as each one left the nest and had families of their own. The "grandmothers" would then share proud stories of the grandchildren. Keeping your family in our prayers at this difficult time. Kathleen Kenealy Stahl

Our deepest sympathy to the family! Although we had not seen Bill for some years he will always be remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I never realized how much Bill and I had in common until I read his obituary. The whole thing about Jeopardy, crossword puzzles and golf really hit home. We even both attended John Carroll HS, although there is no one at Carroll that will ever admit that they educated me. Brenda and I are sincerely heartbroken over his passing, but I am personally even more distressed that I never had the opportunity to share any of those things with him that we both enjoy. Our condolences to his wonderful family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
