On Saturday, July 23, 2016, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of Hermine Gakavian; father of Hrair (Lynne) and Hratch Gakavian; grandfather of Alex and Neva Gakavian; brother of Arshaluis, Annahid, Garbis and the late Azniv. Dear Mrs. Gakavian and family: It was with great sadness and emotion that we , Marie and I, heard in Houston of the passing away of your esteemed husband , father and grandfather of blessed memory Haig Gakavian. We have known Haig for over three decades and we have come to appreciate his soft smile, friendly disposition and willingness to assist in all circumstances. I particularly appreciated his support during my tenure as Principal of Hamasdegh School and his donation to the school of Armenian books that enriched our library. His devotion to Armenian books and literature have been an inspiration to me and a model for all of us to follow. With prayerful condolences Hovsep Melkonian, Houston.

I worked with Haig at the DC Office of Financial Operations and Systems. I am forever grateful for all that he shared with me about the DC financial world. He was a great gentleman and a wonderful friend.

I worked with Haig at the DC Controllers office, later called The Office of Financial Operations and Systems. I remember him as one who was always dedicated to his work and took great pride in it. He was a true gentleman and was very kind to me. Rest in Peace Haig.
