My colleagues and I at the Institute of Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences will miss the many joyful moments which we all experienced during the visits of Professor Bob Anderson in Warsaw. Bob has left many precious memories in our institute. We would like to extend our heart-felt condolences to his family on this sad occasion.

Please accept my profound condolences on Bob's passing. I was deeply saddened when I learned of it. I have known Bob since 1999. He was a very gentle, soft-spoken and kind person. During afternoon breaks while working as postdoc at the University of Maryland, I would often wander to his office, where his door was always open when he was there, and chat with him on many topics. He was a patient listener, gently offering advice, and had a good sense of humor. I think many found comfort in talking with Bob - and I think that is why I am one of many who are writing here. Bob was also eager to share his experiences and work. A couple of times a week, he would wander down to our Quantum Computing lab at the sub-basement, where he was always a welcome figure who would put us at ease and who would bring jokes and tell stories that would break the monotony of work. Everyone in the sub-basement truly appreciated that. And when I was looking for work after my postdoc, he helped me in many ways that I appreciated.

Dr. Robert "Bob" Anderson was a great friend and colleague to many. And though he will be greatly missed by many, he leaves us with the legacy of great memories of his friendship and humanity.

Bob Anderson was a very wise physicist and a very nice man. I had the advantage to collaborate with Bob for over 30 years, in Warsaw, in College Park, and in other places. Bob's help was invaluable. Bob helped me and my friends in many ways, not only in physics. We will always miss him.
It is sad Bob cannot correct my English now, I often asked him to do that.
My deepest sympathy to the family in the big loss.

I had Dr. Anderson for a couple classes as an undergraduate and he ended up being my adviser in graduate school, too. Actually that wasn't by accident because my supervisor at work had done his Ph.D under Bob's direction as well. Bob was a wonderful adviser and mentor. He was thoughtful and kind he knew how to get me to do my best work. I would like his family to know that he was appreciated on many levels.

Just another important thing that I have forgotten to write:

Professor Anderson gave me a chance to come to the USA for a post doctoral position in physics in a field where woman were and still are very few , and for that I am very grateful. lamya

My colleagues in Warsaw and myself are so sorry to hear about Professor Anderson. He has visited the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences several times and has hosted many of us in Maryland. Over the years Bob became a good friend with whom we spent many nice and productive days at work concluded by evening chatting on many topics over numerous dinners. He was a truly kind and friendly person, and as such he remains in our memory. Our most sincere condolences to family over this difficult time.

I will remember Prof. Anderson as an extremely gentle and kind man, who figured out how to motivate me in science, by sending me to conferences around the world. I met him for the first time while taking Introductory Physics II as a freshman. I liked him enough that I thought of him when I started my Ph.D. several years later, and then joined his research group. I learned a lot from him about experimental physics. I also saw a lot of the world as his student. I will remember him as an expert on the de Haas - van alphen effect, magnetism in metals and semiconductors, magneto-transport, and superconductivity. Most of all, I will remember him as a noble human being. I have been trying to pass on his legacy by trying to do as well for my students as he did for me. I will miss his presence and insights.
... be blessed for all the good thou hast done... , and let my gratitude remain in obscurity like your good deeds.

Bob was our neighbor. He was friendly, witty, and always eager to be helpful. He was also an excellent role model riding his bike to school each day instead of driving. Maybe that's what kept him so youthful. We are going to miss Bob very much.

My most sincere condolences to family. Bob was a very kind man and was curious about physics to the end, as he would always attend the LPS Wednesday Seminar as well as physics-department seminars. I had the pleasure of hanging out with him during some basketball games and bike rides over the last decade at the University of Maryland. Once we got stuck in a rain storm around Lake Artemesia, and he got very wet but he still was very kind about the situation even though I should have anticipated the weather better.
