Jim, I have missed you very much! Really! I should have seen you more often in recent years. As a matter of fact, last year when I saw you walk with difficulty, I started feeling sad at the prospect of soon losing you forever. I then began further treasuring each of our get-togethers.

Jazz has actually been more than a simple good friend of mine. He has been such an affectionate and generous father figure to me as he has been liked, respected and admired as such and as in many ways he treated me like a son. Upright, decent and good-hearted, Jazz very much reminded me of my own late father. Forever, Jazz will live in my heart and memory!

Over the course of my sixteen years of friendship with Jazz and his wife Irene, we did a variety of spare time activities together. We ate traditional Chinese meals at Chinagora in Paris and Jazz' favorite dish was the Pekin-style roasted duck. We celebrated the Chinese Lunar New Year. We saw movies and then held a little discussion on what we had seen. What is particularly worth mentioning is that in 2003 Jazz and I joined hands to work on an anti-cigarette-smoking postcard. Now, all these fond remembrances will be engraved in my memory.

Although a whole month has gone by since Jazz passed away, I have been unable to recover from my deep grief at the loss of such a great and special friend. That pain sometimes can be so acute that I have to pretend Jazz is still alive. The only consolation for me now is that I was able to spend some time with him in his hospital ward just three days prior to his death. Before leaving the hospital, I took a long, long look at him.
