I met Jim so very long ago and I will never forget him. He had such a great presence and filled any room that he walked into. He was a solid ship in a storm and a strong leader. I am honored to have been apart of his ACCA family.

Being part of a book club with Jim and Barbara was so stimulating and fun; they helped me survive the Bush years. An added treat was watching Jim act: he embodied the character and commanded the stage.

One of my favorite jazz stories of all time was Jim telling me that he was walking down the street in Chicago and from the sidewalk he heard a piano emanating from a bar. Right away he recognized it was someone good so he went in. Over in a corner, playing the bar's upright, was ART TATUM! The dozen patrons were paying no particular attention to legendary pianist, but Jim sat down and listened -- he did appreciate what was in front of him. It's been 20 years since he told me that story, but I still remember him pointing at me with that twinkle in his eye and saying -- Now kid, that was a concert! Jim, you will be missed.
