On Wednesday, March 4, 2015 of Wheaton, MD. Beloved wife of the late Bernard A. Burke; beloved mother of Christopher J. (Susan), Stephen R. (the late Patricia), the late Michael F. (Catherine) Burke, Molly (the late Dennis) Burdette and the late Bernard A. Burke, Jr.; beloved grandmother of Dennis, Steven (Jessica) and Robert (Molly) Burdette; beloved great-grandmother of James Burdette; beloved aunt of Kathleen Schooley. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine Laboure Church, Veirs Mill & Claridge Roads, Wheaton, MD on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. I will miss her laugh. I remember when she was over our house when we were little for company, we would all sit on the stairs and wait for her to laugh. She was bigger than life. Chris, Steve and Molly, you are in our prayers.

Joan was a wonderful example of Christian commitment. She lived a dedicated life of Roman Catholicism and expanded it to lifelong profession as a lay member of the Dominican religious order ( formerly called "Third order"). She served as an officer in her local chapter and also at the Provincial level. She was an example of faithfulness and holiness to all of us in her lay Dominican chapter. We will miss our beloved sister in Christ but count on her intercession for us going forward.

Mrs. Burke has been such an important person in our lives. I will miss her infectious laughter at family gatherings. I can only imagine the delight my mom must be feeling at seeing her dear friend again. Heaven will never be the same. Miss you dearly. Our deepest sympathy to the Burke family. God bless.
