JOSEPH MUTTY HICKSON (Age 90)
On Tuesday, June 23, 2015 of Wheaton, MD. Beloved husband of the late Doris J. Hickson; father of Joseph T. Hickson, Colleen M. Wilkins, Karen M. Proctor, Daniel P. Hickson, and Jamie S. Harris. Also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Wednesday, July 1, 2015, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine Laboure, Veirs Mill & Claridge Roads, Wheaton, MD, on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. As a kid, my father introduced me to Joe at a softball game at Turkey Thicket in NE DC. Joe was the catcher on his team. The last time I saw Joe he was playing B-ball with my bro Andy at GC. Always glad to see me, as I was happy to see him and his smile.

Joe lived a long life and left all of us his wonderful family. He was a WWII hero and a hero to all who knew him!

Joe nicknamed me "Dipsy Doodle". Not sure why but I enjoyed the affectionate name. I enjoyed his sense of humor and his great attitude. He always said he was "fine and dandy". I will miss him.

Always playing basketball... I looked forward to seeing him after volleyball practices and camps. He always had a kind word. I know I would never be able to win a game against him - he was too good! I know he is still playing tonight...

AS someone who has recently gone through this, remember the good times, but also how there was pain near the end. He is happy in heaven with your mom and my parents, and Uncle Bill. Prayers are being sent your way to get you through these next few really bad days. Soon hopefully when you think of him will be with smiles of happiest rather then tears of sadness.
