MICHAEL F. ANDERSON (Age 76)
Michael Foley Anderson of Silver Spring, MD, died April 2, 2018, of heart failure. Born March 11, 1942, in Brownsville, TX, he was the son of the late Francis Michael Anderson and Elizabeth Ann (nee Gerhart) Anderson. Raised in Brownsville, Michael graduated in 1960 from St. Thomas Military Academy in St. Paul, MN. In 1972, he received a BS in International Affairs from Georgetown University. After working as a criminal justice consultant, Michael opened his own photography studio in 1980 in Alexandria and later in Arlington. His clients included Washingtonian Magazine, the Washington Post, the National Institutes of Health, the Smithsonian, the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, AT&T and the American Diabetes Association. He also worked as a photo editor for the Washingtonian and Turner Publishing. He was honored in 1986 with a National Magazine Award for photography in the Washingtonian. From 1997 to 2003, Michael was a software consultant, offering graphics, web design and instruction. Throughout a lifelong pursuit of his own spiritual development, Michael dedicated countless hours in service to others on the same path. He became a certified Life Coach in 2004. Michael is survived by his wife, Nancy Harris Anderson, whom he married in 1998; his daughter, Patricia Jane Anderson Proper of Colorado Springs, and her three daughters, Rebekah Proper of North Carolina, Caitlin Louth (Josh) of Colorado and Samara Figueroa (Jonathan) of Washington; his son, Michael Francis Anderson of Los Angeles, and his wife Tiffany Anderson, daughter Haley Chen and son Jack Michael; and five siblings, John Anderson of Austin; Jane Anderson Garcia of San Antonio; Katherine "Kate" Anderson Young of Massachusetts and Texas; Christopher Anderson of Portland, OR; and Timothy Anderson of Houston. His brother, Francis Joseph "Chip" Anderson, formerly of El Paso, died in 2007. Friends are invited to join the family for a ceremony to commemorate Michael's life at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at his home, 13309 Banbury Place, Silver Spring MD 20904.
